14th of July reception
Nearly 200 people accepted the invitation of the Ambassador of France to Namibia, Mrs. Claire Bodonyi, and gathered to celebrate our national day at the Residence of France.
Alongside the French community living in Namibia, representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of several French companies established in the region, as well as numerous Namibian personalities from the private sector, or from the artistic, cultural, and educational fields came to attend the much-awaited reception.
A group of young Namibians, the Broken Metronomes, interpreted the Marseillaise and the Namibian anthem. Their moving interpretation was unanimously appreciated by the guests. They then accompanied the entire reception with their rhythmic melodies.
The Ambassador spoke both in English and French to thank the guests for being present. She stressed the importance of the fight against climate change, in which she will engage during her mission in Namibia. Essential to our survival, she recalled that this fight was also a source of great opportunities in the fields of economics, research and creativity.
Then, Mrs. Claire Bodonyi thanked the French expatriates for being the ambassadors of France’s values in their daily lives. She also encouraged her compatriots to come and meet her in order to discuss and exchange on a variety of topics. Before raising her glass to the relationship between France and Namibia, she thanked her colleagues on the departure for their work and the sponsors for their generous contribution to the organization of the event.
The guests enjoyed the best of French gastronomy thanks to the star chef of La Bonne Table, Yannick Schweinghardt. On the menu : delicatessen and cheeses directly imported from France, duck confit and sweet canapés as dessert. Champagne and whiskey tasting, organized by Pernod Ricard, also contributed to the conviviality of the event.
This reception was made possible thanks to the generous support of our French and Namibian sponsors : Airbus, Air France KLM, Aqua Services/Veolia, Areva, Bank Windhoek, InnoSun, Matiti Safaris, Maurel & Prom, Pernod Ricard, Peugeot, Saint Gobain, Standard Bank, Total Namibia and Tristone Africa.
