Women and Francophonie celebrated on 8 March.
March 8, International Women’s Day, was chosen by the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre to organize its monthly event « Let’s read », whose theme dealt with « Narrators and Women from the Congo River ».
Thus, women and the francophone community (predominantly composed of Congolese citizens) were honored, by this event opening the Francophonie celebrations in Namibia. A large public attended the event, the result of the collaboration between the Embassies of France, Congo and DR Congo. The Ambassadors of the OIF (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie) countries attended.
Four books about the history and the people of the Congo Basin were presented to the public. Followed by a debate on women as actors of development, led by Mrs. Marie-Thérèse Avemeka, the Ambassador of Congo, and Mr. Anastas Kaboba Wa-Kimba, the Ambassador of the democratic Republic of Congo.
The celebrations of the Francophonie will last the entire month of March.
